3/20 Forcing religion on kids
I have stated openly SEVERAL times, that I accept people of all
religions. I believe very strongly that it is no ones place to judge
anyone in this life. Therefore, please do not take this a a judgement,
it is merely an observation of something in our society that I really
think needs to change. This is aimed at no ONE religion in
particular. In this country there is a very strong practice of growing
up with a religion, and simply following that religion blindly
because it is the one that your parents, and their parents, and their
parents before them followed. (Even if it is not parallel to your
own beliefs!) I think this is very damaging to our children, it stifles
open mindedness and it takes away from the spiritual journey that
we all must take. Every persons spiritual path is different, and every
person is entitled to choose their own religion and follow their own
beliefs without persecution. I personally believe that no one religion
is 100% right or 100% wrong, but I think we need to focus more on
just being good people. If we are good people with good hearts who
do good things then religion in it's self should not matter to the point
that we stifle others religious views, try to convert them or threaten
them with eternal damnation. (For example). I strongly believe that
ALL religions should be presented to children as options, without
any biased views from parents. When my child is old enough to
worry about that sort of thing and make her own decisions about
her beliefs I will certainly not be upset if she chooses a different
religious path than I do. We live in America, where choice of
religion is scrawled into our constitution, but many of us do not
practice this in every day life. That is a sad, sad truth. Live your life
as a good person, live your life for today and whether it be Wicca,
Atheism, Buddhism, Christianity or one of COUNTLESS other
belief systems do not let anyone try to change your mind. I beg you
please do not take away this very important and fundamental
choice from your children. No one should live in fear, no one
should be brain washed from a young age with ideas that are not
their own. In any other area of life we would realize that when our
children start believing things simply because we tell them to, or
spoon feed them ideas that are not their own that is a problem.
Would you want your child to jump off of a bridge simply because
someone wrote down in a book that if they jumped off they could
fly, and took the time to beat this into their heads for their whole
lives? I would hope that the question answers itself, no matter how
extreme the example might be. Until next time, -Love, light, and
Blessed Be! Feel free to tell me what you think on this topic, leave me a comment below :)!
